DO NOW: Quick Jot
Write down a list of Mike’s physical mannerisms.
How does he stand? How does he move? How does he talk?
How, when, and why does he deviate from “normal” Mike?
SILENT READING:
Independently, read Mike’s monologue about chocolate malt balls (available in Google Drive). Think about how Mike would deliver these lines.
DIRECTING:
We need one student volunteer to stand and read Mike’s monologue.
After delivering the first 3-4 sentences, pause and get direction from other students.
What can our volunteer do to perform more like Mike would? To act like Mike.
Look at your list of physical mannerisms. Stance, movement, speech, etc.
It’s okay to have differing opinions. Try a few different versions.
PERFORM:
Needed: One student to record. One student to perform.
When the performance feels suitably “Mike-ish,” please record some of the monologue. (You don’t need to perform the entire thing.)
Whoever records the performance needs to share it with Mike (via email or Drive).
Bonus Points: My dream would be if students divided the monologue up into sections, and everyone tried a few lines “in character.”
