RESEARCH Pt. I (9:30 - 10:40)
Open a Question Starts document to brainstorm questions independently.
Share out questions. Categorize them as “open” or “closed.”
Everyone selects at least one open question, or 2-3 closed questions.
Mike will find a first source, and we'll discuss the process.
One volunteer to model finding a resource.
Studio time to find resources and document answers to your questions.
RESEARCH Pt. II (10:40 - 11:20)
Share out what you have learned with Connections. (One student starts, others raise their hand and connect their responses until we’ve heard from everybody.)
While we hear new information, write down at least one new question that you are wondering.
Mike will capture key points.
Continue research with original questions as well as new questions.
CREATION BRIDGE (11:20 - 11:40)
Share out more information.
Determine 4-5 key points that are most important about this topic.
Discuss what type of creation we could make to communicate the information we have learned.
Develop a plan for what can be done during the next day out of school and the next day in school. Part of the next “live” day will be feedback, so come prepared!
Our chose topic is... Mental Health During a Pandemic
How can we expand the mental health resources available for students in the SASD?
IDEATION (8:30 - 9:30)
Set Up: Open up a Beane Protocol document. Mike has a large sheet to document conversation.
Mike will start with one word that branches off from the overall theme.
Going around the circle, each student offers one word connected to the word they heard previously.
Go around a second time. Students can add a word connected to any other word on the mind map.
During these go-arounds, you need to start putting some topics into the categories in your Beane document.
Continue conversation until popular themes and questions start to emerge.
We will select a topic or two, and use the Driving Question Creator to develop a driving question for the group.
