ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY FOR TECHNOLOGY AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
The Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District currently provides all students (K-12) and staff members access to its computer systems / network as a means to support the strategic plan and educational objectives of the district.
The computer system / network provides access to limited educational and administrative resources. These educational and administrative purposes shall be defined as classroom activities, research, communication, collaboration, professional and career development, and the sharing of successful programs, practices and materials.
This policy relates to all technology equipment owned by the district or utilized on district property.
Availability
The Superintendent or designee shall implement, monitor and evaluate the district’s computer systems/network for instructional, administrative and security purposes.
Use of the district’s computer system / network is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use may result in a cancellation or limiting of this privilege. Building and district administration will make all decisions regarding the use of the district’s computer system / network. All users shall be required to acknowledge receipt and understanding of all administrative regulations and procedures governing the use of the system and shall agree in writing to comply with such regulations and procedures. If a user, either staff or student, has violated the rights and responsibilities set forth in this document, the user may be subject to a suspension or termination of user privileges and other disciplinary actions consistent with the policies of Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District.
Violations of law may result in criminal prosecution as well as disciplinary action by Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District. The district has the right to place reasonable restrictions on the material that can be accessed or posted to the system. Access to the system / network shall be in accordance with administrative regulations and procedures. The district’s computer system / network has not been established as a public access service or public forum.
Acceptable Use
The Superintendent or designee shall develop and implement administrative regulations, procedures and user agreements for administration, faculty, staff and students, consistent with the purposes and mission of the Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District as well as law and policy regarding copyright.
Monitored Use
Use of electronic resources by students and staff, including electronic mail transmissions, should not be considered confidential and may be monitored or archived by designated staff to ensure appropriate use for educational and administrative purposes.
Liability
The school district makes no guarantees or warranties that the functions or the services provided by or through the system will be error-free or without defect. The district will not be responsible for any damage students may suffer including but not limited to, the loss of data, interruptions of service, or exposure to inappropriate material / people. The district is not responsible for the accuracy or quality of the information obtained through or stored in the system. Use of the Internet occurs at the risk of the student. The district will not be responsible for financial obligations arising through the unauthorized use of the system by students. Staff, students and / or their parents may be held financially responsible for any harm to the system as a result of intentional misuse.
