NAMING / DEDICATION OF DISTRICT FACILITIES

Prior to any AWRSD facility, building, or property being named after, dedicated to, or otherwise memorialized the following policy shall be followed:

By a majority vote of the school committee the chairperson shall appoint an ad-hoc sub-committee to consider the proposed naming, dedication, or memorial. The ad-hoc sub-committee shall give a recommendation to the school committee as to the appropriateness of the proposal.

During their deliberations the ad-hoc sub-committee shall consider (but not necessarily be limited to) the following:

  • Length of service, commitment, and/or support to the school community and education;

  • Length of service, commitment, and/or support to public service;

  • The appropriateness of the proposed facility/property as it relates to the person;

  • Community support which may include financial contributions for the proposal.

After deliberations the ad-hoc subcommittee shall make a recommendation to the school committee. If an appropriate motion is made the school committee must by supermajority vote of the full committee approve any such naming, dedication or memorial.

The school district shall keep a log of all facilities/property and any naming dedications made.
