Charter of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee
Scope of Responsibility:
The Subcommittee is charged with assisting the District in identifying and decreasing financial and non financial barriers to the development of a culture that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.
Diversity: Includes but is not limited to race, color, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic status, veteran status, education, marital status, language, age, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, and mental or physical ability.
Equity: Guarantees fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all while striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups. The principle of equity acknowledges that there are historically under-served and under-represented populations and that fairness regarding these unbalanced conditions is needed to assist equality.
Inclusion: Authentically brings traditionally excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities, and decision/policy making in a way that shares power and ensures equal access to opportunities and resources and the provision of effective opportunities to all groups.
Specific Duties:
Identify areas for improvement in approaches to diversity, equity and inclusion
Discuss and facilitate possible approaches to identified areas of need in collaboration with all stakeholders
Participate in educational opportunities to increase understanding of these issues
Serve as liaisons to the multidisciplinary Safety Committee and Wellness Committee
Authority:
The Subcommittee serves as an advisory body to the School Committee Each school year the Chairperson will appoint representatives from this committee to serve as liaisons to Safety and Wellness Committees.
