HOW TO CHANGE THE VALVE STEM OIL SEALS WITHOUT REMOVING THE CYLINDER HEAD

QUESTION ;

Have you ever wanted to change your valve stem oil seals and dreaded having to take the head off ?

ANSWER ;

{ 1 } Remove Spark Plug{s}

{ 2 } Remove Rocker Cover

{ 3 } Remove complete Rocker gear assembly

{ 4 } Get an offcut of house wire as per ;

LENGTH ; Any from 20cms up to 10 metres

WIDTH ; 10cms

{ 5 } Insert cable through spark plug hole and the following photo shows how the end of the cable is positioned in the cylinder

{ 6 } I made a valve removal tool from an old Reliant Robin seat channel as per ;

{ 7 } Place the tool over one of the Rocker assembly pillar studs and fit a spacer { larger nut etc } and the original nut as per ;

By using the channel design , the collets have less chance of falling off as they are retained in the channel .

I made the tool because I needed to change my first broken valve spring in over 40 years of Reliant ownership !
