FAN REMOVAL WITHOUT TAKING THE RADIATOR OFF

The following is the method I use to remove the fan while still in attached to the engine without removing the radiator .

The method has been successful nearly every time I have performed it .

You might skin a knuckle but that is a small price to pay for the time and hassle saved by not having to remove the radiator .

TOOLS REQUIRED

{ 1 }

1/4 INCH DRIVE BY 7/16 inch or 11 mm SOCKET

{ 2 }

1/4 inch or 6mm ALLEN KEY { slack fit ; easily removed } or 7 mm ALLEN KEY { possibly needs a tiny bit of filing on the edges or tapped into place ; tight fit } or small piece of 1/4 square steel bar

Cut the short end of the allen key till the smallest part fits in the socket .

The fan bolts are deeply recessed in the fan and remove easily .

To refit the bolts you will need to stuff paper or some other soft object into the socket end so that the bolt only enters the socket to the depth of the bolt head .

This is so that you can apply a little pressure on the top of the bolt head to start press it against the water pump and start the thread .

SPANNER TO SUIT IF NOT USING THE ALLEN KEY

You can use either a short offcut of 1/4 inch square bar or hammer a small section of a 1/4 inch or 7 mm allen key into the socket .

Cut off the protruding part till it is approx 1/4 inch long .

Use the small spanner to slacken / tighten .

I also have welded a flat bar direct onto a socket .
