FITTING
If engine is still in car it is often better to remove the petrol hose feed and overflow hose { if fitted } .
Also make sure that on the SU carb models that the cloth part of the drip tray is not trapped under the Gasket .
It might be advisable to remove one of the connection on the water hose from the rear of the head to the heater if the hose is short without much movement
It is also much easier if you remove both the drivers and passengers footwell engine bay access side panels to check if the drip tray mat is free and the cover is sitting down all the way around
Fit the rocker cover at the front first , ensuring that it is not catching on the thermostat housing and taking care not to catch the gasket on the rocker cover studs ..
As for the 2 nuts for sealing the top ,
I often fit a tight fitting "O" ring over the stud ,
cover that with clear silicon gasket and all around ,
then add a washer which fits around the outside of the "O" ring ,
then add another washer on top of that which is just the inside diameter of the stud and which fits around the outside of the "O" ring ,
then screw the " Binx " nut down on top of that .
The " Binx " nut ensures that it will not slacken off .
Wipe any excess clear silicon gasket off and you will have no further problems .
There should be no pressure in the rocker cover since it is vented through the breather .
If the rocker cover gasket is in good nick and nothing is trapped underneath then the problem is more than likely a blocked breather system .
Do not over tighten the rocker cover nuts .
If removed , Remember and refit the petrol hose feed , overflow hose and water hoses .
