The following is an extract from the Reliant World post above .

Try the following sequence .

If You have it running , then warm up the engine and switch off

Remove complete air filter assembly .

Slacken the fast idle screw { the lower one } right back . { See PICTURE above }

Slacken of the little screw which clamps the choke cable at the carb .

As wheaters mentions in previous post this is to

so the fast idle isn't being induced with the choke knob pushed in.

Make sure the the cam plate where the choke cable goes through is fully down and then re-tighten the little clamp screw making sure that the cam plate stays down .

The throttle adjustment screw { the top right hand screw } is the one at the other end of the bracket that carries the fast idle screw .

It is on the side of the carb and is vertical . { See PICTURE above }

First slacken the throttle adjustment screw right back .

Now if you look at the bracket which carries the cable you will notice that the cable goes through a hex bar which is clamped to the bracket by a nut .

{ A } The bracket is slotted and if you slacken off the nut { holding onto the hex with another spanner } and slide the hex up or down you will notice that the inner cable is getting slacker or tighter .

Clamp the hex at the point where the cable is just a fraction slack .

A wee tip for you ; Get a length of the rubber petrol pipe about 8 inches long and soften one end in hot water then push over the throttle adjusting screw { top screw }

Using the end of the rubber hose just re-screw the throttle adjuster screw in till it starts to touch the plate underneath .

Start engine you might have to get some one to turn the starter while you pull on the throttle cable because tickover will be set too low .

Now turn the rubber hose or adjust the tickover screw clockwise to increase the revs till you have a satisfactory tickover .

Turn off the engine and reset the gap on Choke screw to 40 thou { The fast idle screw ; the lower one which adjusts from underneath } .

This bit is just for your own info . If you get someone to slowly pull the choke lever on you will see the choke cam come round and touch the throttle bracket and push the throttle open .

REFIT complete air filter assembly .

Now start engine and readjust the tickover hopefully using the rubber hose method as it can be a swear job to adjust with a screwdriver .

You might find that the inner throttle cable is slack .

If TOO slack then readjust as at step { A } making sure that there is still slack there { Better to have the cable slacker than too tight }
