BRAKES FRONT SHOE SPRINGS FAULTS

WARNING ;

I have worked on many Reliant Robins with the mini brake setup and lots of them { including a few of my own !! } had one or both front brake shoe springs snapped in 2 .

On further investigation { and I should have been more observant at an earlier time } I found that a lot of the springs were poorly made .

CORRECT SHAPE SPRING END and CORRECT SHAPE STRAIGHT WIRE PART

FOLLOWING IS A FAULTY SPRING

FAULT 1 ; The hook end on the straight wire was formed in the wrong shape ; It is more of a triangular shape

FAULT 2 ; The straight wire was not straight and bent in two directions

FAULT 3 ; The hook end on the straight wire was not parallel to the hook on the end of the coiled spring end

When the FAULTY SPRING is fitted it does not lie parallel to both shoes and you have to twist the shoes when fitting into place .

This puts strain on the supposed to be straight part of the spring and , over time , it flexes and snaps which can be dangerous .
