SPEEDI SLEEVES

The following article was supplied to me by Paul Wheatley .

From previous experience of trying to fix oil leaks from the front of the engine and back of the gearbox, I highly recommend fitting Speedi-sleeves.

The front pulley and rear coupling are soft iron and wear quite badly, due to the road grit and oil combining to make grinding paste.

If yours have any sign of a visible wear lip, a new seal might not cure the leak.

The wear sleeves are stainless steel and last almost forever.

(this sleeve, fitted to my car, has done 25,000 miles and what used to be a wear groove is now just polished to a fine finish):

The part numbers:

Crank pulley: CR99139

Gearbox output flange: CR99131

Use the standard oil seal with these sleeves.

They are about £20 each, but well worth the expense.

I received the following info from Pavel Konvalinka from Prague ;

I was inspired by your article about SKF speedi sleeves and interested in buying the SKF CR 99139 for my leaking pulley.

However SKF is quite expansive.

Here is a German equivalent for half the SKF cost.

It comes with a tool for pressing on the shaft.

I made a very simply press from a scrap of breadboard, four nuts M6, washers and two M6 threaded bars.

It works perfectly so you don´t have to worry about damaging the thin sleeve.
