BRAKES ; MINI REAR BRAKE DRUM CONVERSION

Classic Mini brake drums can be modified to fit the later Robins with the mini brake system .

Why did I try this ?

Reliant drums are around £60 and , since I got a wee bit money for my Xmas , I decided to buy a couple of Mini drums at £ 11 each .

If they were not suitable I would only be out of pocket a wee bit.

When I received them I immediately noticed that they were the same castings as the Reliant drums .

The problems with the Mini drums are as follows ;

{ 1 } Centre hole is narrower than the Reliant hub

[ 2 } The drum has 2 tapered holes which , on the actual mini car , are for screw locating points .

{ 3 } When you open up the Mini drum centre to the larger size it nearly breaks into the holes .

To solve the problem of water getting into the brakes through the mini brake drum locating holes I used cut down mini locating screws and superglued them into place
