The earth wire is required to provide a good solid ground between the top movable points plate and the distributor body .

You may get intermittent poor running if it is not fitted .

One end of the earth wire is secured to the wee screw which holds the condencer to the top plate .

The other end of the earth wire is secured to the screw which holds the bottom points plate to the distributor body .

DISTRIBUTOR CAP FAULTS

One problem with the distributor in damp weather is due to a build up of

a grey coloured crusty deposit on the 4 distributor terminals .

This needs to be picked of with a small screwdriver or something similar

taking care not to scratch the metal as you do it .
