NOTE the FOLLOWING TIP
Originally posted by Reliant World Forum Member " wheaters " ;
As I always say when folk talk about premature wear of the carbon release bearing, it's well worth polishing the release ring of the clutch housing to a mirror shine (i.e. where the carbon pushes against), using successively finer abrasive cloth then wet and dry paper and a lubricant such as water with a little washing up liquid in it.
The smoother it is, the less the carbon will wear.
NOTE the FOLLOWING TIP
ROLL PIN INFO FOR THE CLUTCH OPERATING ARM ; CLICK HERE
xxxx
CLUTCH ; CABLE ; RELIANT Part Number ; 22190
In my opinion the pivot {trunnion } where the threaded cable end goes through seizes in the clutch arm lever and this is the biggest cause of the cable snapping due to the cable being flexed back and forth where the threaded part meets the cable .
Do not bash the pivot { Trunnion } on the side to free it because you will possibly bend the lever .
Get a good quality crosshead type screwdriver or any long rod or bar to fit inside the hole where the clutch cable goes after lots of Plus Gas or Wd40 type lubricant or a little heat has been applied .
Fit the bar into the trunnion from the rear only , so that when you are applying pressure you are doing so in a downwards direction and pushing towards the front of the vehicle .
At the same time use a spanner to hold the operating arm from moving backwards or forwards .
When you get the trunnion free , remove it and give it a good clean .
Ensure that it is then moving freely in the hole in the operating arm .

CLUTCH ; RETURN TENSION SPRING
free length 215 mm ; Earlier Carbon Type Pre 1990 ;
RELIANT Part Number ; 23912
{ Note ; this spring fits to the rear of the clutch operating arm and connects to the gearbox rear mounting bracket to pull the arm away . This is so that the carbon thrust washer is kept clear of the clutch to avoid wear }

CLUTCH ; RETURN TENSION SPRING
free length 115 mm ; Later Roller Type after 1990 ;
RELIANT Part Number ; 31959
{ Note ; this spring fits to the front of the clutch operating arm and connects to the engine mounting bracket at the front of the gearbox to pull the arm on . This is so that the Roller thrust washer is kept in contact with the clutch to avoid chatter }

How to adjust the clutch on a Carbon thrust bearing clutch
CLUTCH ; ADJUSTMENT ;
How to adjust the clutch on a Roller thrust bearing clutch
The Roller later clutch looks like this with the same procedure in that you remove the spring first
{ NOTE THAT THE SPRING ON THE ROLLER CLUTCH GOES FROM THE LEVER TO THE FRONT AND PULLS THE ARM ON }
To adjust the clutch cable on the later roller type clutch ;
{ 1 } Fit the cable and the adjusting nut
{ 2 } If you look at the non threaded part of the cable you will see it has flats . Use a spanner to stop the cable from turning whilst you adjust the nut on the cable end .
{ 3 } You adjust the cable gently until no play is there .
Note it is easy to keep tightening after you reach the point where there is no slack so take care and check frequently as you approach the optimum point .
{ 4 } Fit the clutch hold on spring through the hole on the operating arm then get someone to depress the clutch pedal and this makes it easier to fit the other end of the spring into the hole on the engine plate .
