In term one, I had the opportunity to apply and be selected to become a subject prefect. This process impacted me for the better because, in the application stage, I wrote down reasons as to why I should become an English subject prefect which showed my talkative side and how I can persuade people. I was lucky enough to be accepted, which told me I had tried hard enough and that I was part of an enterprise now. The core things I learnt here were that if you try hard and participate to earn something, your work will pay off. You also have to be very fluent in speaking eloquently and knowing what/how you have to answer. This was very enjoyable for me because I enjoy telling people whats on my mind.
What I really enjoy about English is that even when simply reading you learn new vocabulary that you can then apply into your writing tasks. Aso, when writing, I am always keen to incorporate different poetic devices and characters. I enjoyed last term's topic - heroes and villains because I learnt a lot about how to spot the good from bad, and how I can become a better person. This demonstrates that the work completed in English lessons is applicable in everyday life, which is very useful later on. These are only a couple of the many reasons why I became an English subject prefect and how English is such an important subject to learn. Either way I was really happy I could be a part of that and I am.
On the 24 of September I fulfilled my duty by going to the Year 6 Open Evening. From 4.30 to 6 pm I was able to talk and educate Year 6 students about English at WA. As English is a very important subject, I got to talk about many different things such as what I like about the class, the homework and what WA has to offer. Also I had to apply many skills such as public speaking so that evening really required fast and eloquent talking because as people came in and out, you had to make sure everyone understands what you’re saying.
