Hi! I’m Ahlam, and I’m a Maths Prefect. Now, I know not everyone loves Maths, but hear me out—it’s actually one of the most important subjects you’ll ever study. Why? Because it’s everywhere! Whether you’re working out change at the shop, reading a train timetable, or solving a tricky puzzle, Maths is always there, helping you figure things out.
At school, we’ve covered so much already. Back in primary school, I learned how to multiply and divide by two-digit numbers, and we tackled BIDMAS (brackets, indices, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction). Negative numbers seemed tricky at first, but once I understood how to add, subtract, and multiply them, it all started making sense.
This term, we’re focusing on angles—learning how to use a protractor properly (which is harder than it looks at first!). Did you know there are different types of angles? There are acute angles (0-89°), right angles (90°), obtuse angles (91-179°), straight angles (180°), and reflex angles (181-359°). Reflex angles are interesting because you have to measure the part that’s not included in the main angle, which can be a bit confusing at first.
Maths isn’t just about numbers—it’s about problem-solving, logic, and patterns. It’s a skill you build on throughout your life, and the earlier you start, the easier it becomes. So even if you’re struggling with something now, don’t give up! Keep practicing, and soon, it’ll all click into place.
