My name's Aniya and I am a Year 7 student at WA and a maths subject prefect. I think WA maths is fun, informative, and suitable depending on a child/children's needs.
Right now in Year 7, we are recapping and expanding on what we learnt in primary school. During the last few lessons we have learnt about the commutative law, distributive law and associative laws. We have also covered long multiplication, and next lesson we are learning about prime numbers. I think recapping is good because we have just come back to school after a very long break, therefore it refreshes our knowledge. I believe that it is fair because everyone starts off with the same amount of knowledge and understanding of the subjects.
I became a maths prefect because I feel very passionate about maths and I believe in helping students become as passionate as me. It has given me the opportunity to contribute to the lessons and create a supportive atmosphere where every student feels valued and respected. Adding to the fact that maths is amazing, it is also a universal language. It helps with the greater things in life such as problem solving. Maths also encourages free thinking as there are several different ways to solve a problem. There is a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of satisfaction that comes from solving challenging maths problems.
A quote from one of my classmates:
“Maths here is fun and engaging in a way that we get rewards when we behave and study. For example, at the end of lessons if we have time we play a game like kahoot or blooket. This teaches us that with life comes consequences, they may be good or bad and the best thing is it is a really fun way of learning maths as they usually are maths themed.”
I believe that maths can be beautiful with harmony, patterns and structures in numbers and forms.
