In celebration of Black History Month, Year 9 Expressive Arts Prefects recently hosted a special event highlighting the importance of culture, style, and expression within the Black community. On Tuesday, 15th October, 2 students had the unique opportunity to interview a professional stylist from the Black community. The event took place in the Green Room during the Year 9 assembly, running from 12:50 pm to 1:25 pm, and provided students with valuable insights into the art of styling and the influence of Black culture on contemporary fashion.
As part of the Black History Month Talk Show series, the interview explored Laurel Hunter’s professional journey, sources of inspiration, and the importance of cultural heritage in their creative work. Students also learned about the significant contributions of Black culture to the fashion industry and how style can be a powerful form of self-expression and cultural pride.
This interactive event not only celebrated the talents within the Black community but also enriched students' understanding of the expressive arts as tools for connection, identity, social impact and career pathways.
