Welcome to Physical education.
This subject is my personal favourite. In P.E we learn about many sports - obviously Basketball, Football and your typical sports - but we also explore deeper and find out how to make yourself the best you can be at those sports. This includes muscular endurance, and physical fitness. However, not only do we practise the physical approach to P.E, we also look at the tactical side as well. This includes ‘tiki taka’ (a style of play in football including accurate, short passing), and teamwork.
Personally I loved learning about muscular endurance. This is because no matter how small or big you are, the more you practise the easier it becomes everyday. In basketball and football we practise shooting and dribbling. In cricket we learn about the correct way to bat, throw, and catch. In tag rugby, we practise our teamwork skills and sprinting so we can run past the opposition easily. In table tennis, we work on reaction time and serving. We may also occasionally work on some weight training - looking at the correct form to lift weights so we don’t injure ourselves.
Recently, I got to go on a trip to an incredible cricket competition at the Lord's Cricket Ground. This was an amazing opportunity because we had a tour of the grounds, and got to go inside the players' dressing rooms. Fun Fact: Did you know that it takes up to 37 years to become a member of the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) and the MCC building was made in 1787.
I love how our P.E teachers push us to be the best we can be and want us to be better everyday. In P.E we get assessed on different things, like our individual fitness and attention in lessons. We would also be given a time limit to do a certain amount of push ups, sit ups and wall sits for as long as we can.
I think P.E is one of the most important subjects because it can boost your physical fitness and appearance. Also it gives children early exposure to team sports and they also learn the importance of exercise as a lifelong habit.
