On Wednesday 19th April the cast of the WA musical, ‘Matilda’, had the privilege to go to the Cambridge Theatre on Tottenham Court Road to watch “Matilda” live.
Students met at school at 6:00pm after the school day to walk to Paddington Station to catch an Elizabeth Line train to Tottenham Court Road. From there we walked to the theatre.
Once at the theatre, we comfortably took our seats and proceeded to watch the play. The first few scenes showed insights of Matilda’s home life before school, and how her family are continuously unkind to her. Then we learn about her relationship with the school librarian, Ms Phelps, where Matilda tells her a story of an escapologist and acrobat. She tells the story of how the two fell in love with each other but longed for a child.
It is then Matilda’s first day of school and she meets Ms Honey, her new teacher that she finds amazing. She notices how gifted Matilda is, and talks to the headmistress, Ms Trunchbull, who you will probably know is the antagonist of the story!
Matilda finds out about her special powers and uses them to save the school after she finds out about the secret of Miss Honey being Ms Trunchbull’s now-adult step-niece, who Ms Trunchbull had previously verbally abused.
After the show ended, we came together as a collective and exclaimed to one another how exceptional the show was. We then departed and some of us were collected, while the others went back to school as a safety precaution. Our teachers always make sure to look after us!
We are extremely thankful for the amazing staff who sacrificed their time after school to take us.
