Zariah Gallagher-Allcendor (Y12): IB English

I am writing to express my gratitude and share my experiences as a student in the IB English Language and Literature program at WA. My time here has been incredibly enriching, and I am pleased to provide insight into the positive impact that this academic journey has had on my personal and intellectual growth.

I enrolled in the English program with a passion for literature but a desire to refine my language skills and study more modern texts. The curriculum not only met but exceeded my expectations. The diverse range of texts (including the films A Street Car Named Desire and Parasite and the poems of Carol Ann Duffy) offered allow me to explore various genres, time periods, and critical perspectives. From dramatic plastic theatre to contemporary radical speeches, each piece challenges me to think critically, engage with complex texts, and articulate my ideas effectively.

The dedicated and knowledgeable faculty played a pivotal role in my academic development. Their genuine passion for literature and commitment to fostering a dynamic learning environment is evident in every lesson. The day-to-day accessibility of teachers for guidance and feedback significantly helps my understanding of the subject matter.

Furthermore, the emphasis on critical thinking and effective communication has not only prepared me for academic success but has also equipped me with valuable skills applicable in various professional settings. The practical and analytical skills developed during my time in the English program so far will undoubtedly be assets in my future endeavours.

In conclusion, I am grateful for the transformative experiences and the supportive academic community that WA has provided me as an English student. I am confident that the knowledge and skills acquired during my time here will serve as a strong foundation for my future academic and professional pursuits.
