Special Post: Year 12 Business trip to Gymshark

On Monday 3rd of June and Friday 7th of June, our Year 12 Business IBDP and IBCP students had the privilege to have a guided tour of the Gymshark flagship store in Regent Street as part of the Marketing unit we are currently working on.

The students were able to live the Gymshark experience, explore the fitness apparel, exclusive in-store products and workout events taking place.  They were able to learn about Gymshark’s meteoric success and cult-like following from a humble operation in a UK garage near Birmingham into a global powerhouse, captivating fitness enthusiasts around the world. Callum Moss, the Events Manager at the store was also able to share the extraordinary story of Gymshark's rise from obscurity to prominence, driven by relentless ambition, strategic marketing, and a genuine understanding of their target audience. The students were also privileged to have a behind the scenes tour of the Gymshark building and have a feel of their strong brand identity and community building

It was a very productive day out for our students and it was fantastic to see them ask questions to the staff about the Marketing strategies of the company. The staff were incredibly impressed with our students and gave us a very detailed talk about Gymshark and how successful the brand is. The students' behaviour was impeccable and showed the school in a great light. Please congratulate them when you see them.

Thank you also to Mr Khan and Ms Jennings for helping us with the trip.

Here are some comments from our Year 12 IBDP and IBCP students about the Gymshark trip:

" An element of the Gymshark trip is experiencing how they market their business. They hold free gym sessions and private fittings for their customers daily which is rare now as a company would rather prioritise profits rather than customer service but they value the latter much more. It makes them unique to do this and a good inspiration for other companies."

- Kisaiah Cassandra Jay Acorio (Year 12 IBDP Business Management Student)

" Educational, exceptional and entertaining. Gymshark is an extremely British-based multinational athletic apparel retailer. As part of learning about the Gymshark business operations, we were given a tour of the shop and how they operate their marketing and personal services (one to one shopping). We also learnt about the accessibility of the 'niche' services when it comes to their Business to Consumer (B2C) approach. It was extremely enjoyable and allowed us to learn about the customer service which is offered at these stores. We were later taken to the food market where we were able to pick from a range of delicious foods. The business department has aided us immensely with the challenging nature of the course and has never failed to broaden our understanding through showing us real life examples of what we have learnt. This allows us to visualise the content that we have learnt which overall makes both the course, our understanding of business and its presence in the real world. "

- Kristiyan Georgiev (Year 12 IBDP Business Management Student)

"My class and I recently visited a Gymshark branch in Oxford Circus as part of a Business trip, where we observed the company’s approach to business growth. Their emphasis on innovation and community engagement has significantly boosted the brand reputation and sales. We toured the store and browsed a few items. We were also told that the store would turn into a gym in the evening, which was interesting because it kept the community engaged at all times. They also offered one-to-one meetings to help customers with tailored outfits and dietary requirements. This approach is unique as it provides services that not a lot of businesses do. Overall, this trip highlighted the importance of understanding customer satisfaction, and continuously changing trends."

- Woud Ahmed  ( Year 12 IBDP Business Management Student)

“I was able to witness how Gymshark has demonstrated an ability to adapt quickly to market trends and scale its operations effectively. I really enjoyed the talk that we had and was able to find, first hand, how the business is so successful. I will definitely be using them when investigating businesses in the future for my BTEC Business assignments”

- Nour Lamrabet Mohamad (Year 12 IBCP Business Student)

“The Gymshark trip was very enjoyable and I was able to witness how they host events like pop-up shops and fitness expos, which serve to strengthen its community and increase brand visibility”

  - Ben Burtt (Year 12 IBCP Business Student)

“ I was really impressed with the tour of Gymshark’s flagship store and how they have developed a strong and recognizable brand identity. By focusing on creating a sense of community among fitness enthusiasts, the company has cultivated a loyal customer base. Gymshark's marketing strategy heavily emphasizes social media engagement and I was able to see that within the store as well”
