We had the privilege of having Religious Studies teacher, Mr Stuart-Bourne share his unique and honest experiences travelling in his gap year after his studies around 30 countries. He told us vast exciting and dangerous stories about himself and his close friends when exploring Europe and mainly Central America in 2022. He had gone to Central America through Portugal, then entered Mexico and travelled by buses, and Uber/taxis and even cycling through different cities and villages.
One main example was his close friend being bitten by a rabid dog late at night in a dark alleyway, and the struggle of travelling to a hospital every 4 weeks to ensure he wasn’t in any danger. He also expressed the feeling of safety but was still at complete risk of unpredictable danger when he least expected it. However, he didn’t fail to add all the things that made his trip worth it!
Even through his rocky journey, there were still moments that made his encounters worth the trouble. He talked about the different types of accommodations he experienced from expensive, luxury hotels to hostels as cheap as £5! He talked of the travel aspects he found broadening his views and how cheap their prices were in comparison to the UK.
Alongside the funny and tragic stories shared, he provided useful and insightful advice to the students on what he thought was crucial to know after having his 2 months of experience abroad in foreign and new countries; answering our questions and elaborating on certain experiences. Thank you to Mr Stuart-Bourne for sharing your travel experiences with us and Mr Khan for organising this memorable event!
