In term 2 of language B Spanish, we learnt about maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a student. We discussed topics related to physical and mental health such as academic pressure, eating habits and the power of music. Learning about these topics not only gave us an insight into Spanish culture (the Mediterranean diet for example), but also a wide range of vocabulary that is actually relevant and practical for us to use as students ourselves. I really enjoyed this part of the course as it gave me the opportunity to think about my own habits, and how I can change my routine to be healthier.
Additionally, the content from this term made me more aware of the strong connection between physical and mental health, and how they come hand in hand. Often they are seen as separate aspects of a healthy life; however, a poor mental health often indicates a poor physical one, and vice-versa.
Moreover, we were taught the characteristics of the Mediterranean diet and its cultural significance in Spain, this was a specifically captivating topic as we learnt about the history of the Mediterranean diet, exposed some of its misconceptions and how the diet is considered part of the way of life in Spain - not just an dietary regime.
My favourite task in this term was writing a speech about how beneficial sports can be in students' lives, and how it has helped me personally to feel less overwhelmed by school. This task required us to recall all of the knowledge we had learnt that term and use it to describe our own opinions and experiences - which was a nice way to conclude the term and summarise our understanding. Overall, this part of the syllabus led onto interesting class discussions about our personal routines and where/why we picked up some of those habits, and taught us how to effectively express our general day to day lifestyle.
