Psykers
Psykers are mutants, and as such are deemed heretical by Imperial law. The only way a Psyker can legally exist in the Imperium is if they are Sanctioned; whereby they must submit to ruthless and unforgiving testing by the Inquisition and Adeptus Astra Telepathica. Resistance results in capture, censure, and often death.
A psychically-inclined Agent may become Sanctioned by;
Becoming a member of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica
Being a psychically gifted member of the Adeptus Astartes
Taking the Sanctioned Psyker Ascension Package (becoming a member of either the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, or more rarely the Inquisition)
Any other psyker, regardless of position or Faction, is considered Unsanctioned, and subject to Imperial Law.
