Voidships are massive; so massive, that they typically rely less on individual weapons, and instead on the massed firepower of multiple weapons grouped into batteries. Void warfare typically revolves around manoeuvring so that a ship can bring as many of these batteries to bear on its enemy.
Weapons grouped into Batteries have a multiplier value, or Battery Rating (represented as "(x#)"), and when firing may add half this Rating as bonus dice on the Test. If the weapon has a Salvo Rating of ' - ', then the full value of # can be added as bonus dice on Attack Tests; doing this is treated as a Salvo option, requiring the weapon to be reloaded before being used again.
Splitting Attacks: Weapons with a Battery Rating can be used to attack separate targets without incurring a Multi-Attack DN penalty. This is done in a similar way to an NPC Mob splitting its attacks, but the maximum number of targets which can be engaged in this way is equal to half the Battery Rating.
For example, a ship with 6 cannons (represented on the character sheet as Cannon (x6)) could attack 3 targets, using 2 cannons on each, and gaining 1 bonus dice per attack.
In addition, a ship can fire it's Main and Secondary batteries at the same target simultaneously
Voidship weapons are divided into three broad categories of size; Main Battery Weapons, Secondary Battery Weapons, and Point Defence Weapons.
Main Battery Weapons: A voidship's primary weapons, designed to inflict massive damage on an enemy at long range. See Ship Actions: Open Fire! for details.
Secondary Battery Weapons: Smaller calibre weapons than a voidship's main guns, they are designed to deal with any threat that gets into close range. See Ship Actions: Open Fire! for details.
Point Defence Weapons: Accurate and rapid-firing turrets and small calibre weapons, designed to fend off incoming Attack Craft and Torpedos, they are usually too weak to inflict any real damage on anything larger. See Ship Actions: Activate Point Defence for details.
The following Traits have been added or have different effects when applied to Voidship Weapons;
Concussive (X): When a target is struck by a Concussive weapon, it must take a Pilot Test with a DN equal to (X); if it fails, the target is Staggered for 1 round.
Lance: A weapon with the Lance Trait ignores the Invulnerable Trait of its target.
Point-Defence: Weapons with the Point-Defence Trait can attack Tiny targets without incurring the Size DN Penalty, and can also target Attack Craft and Shuttles.
Sniper (X): When you Aim with a Sniper weapon you gain an additional + 1 bonus die to the attack, and gain +ED equal to the weapon’s Sniper rating. When you fire at a target within Short Range, the DN is increased by the weapons Sniper rating unless you use the Aim option.
Waaagh!: Waaagh! weapons gain +1 bonus dice on attacks if their target has taken any damage, and deal +1 ED if their own ship is Heavily Wounded. These bonuses only apply if the ship's Captain and Crew are Orks.
Every voidship class has a finite number of "Weapon Slots" - each weapon system occupies one or more of these slots, as determined in the Voidships list. Empty weapon slots can be filled with additional weaponry, or existing weapons can be removed in favour of alternatives.
