The SmartGreen Focus Area 6 Team recently undertook a hands-on experience, immersing themselves in public transportation by riding both buses and the MRT. This firsthand engagement provided invaluable insights into the practicalities, challenges, and benefits of utilising public transit, directly informing their strategies for promoting sustainable commuting within the institution. This direct experience reinforces SmartGreen's commitment to understanding and advocating for effective green transportation solutions.
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Ensuring access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems for everyone, especially for low-income groups. The use of public transport decreases reliance on private vehicles and helps make cities more sustainable and less congested.
SDG 13: Climate Action
Minimising the use of private cars aids in lowering carbon emissions and air pollution, thus contributing to climate change mitigation.
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
Reducing deaths and diseases caused by air and water pollution. Fewer vehicles on the road lead to less air pollution, thereby improving public health quality.
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Many public transport systems now utilise clean energy (for example, electric MRT), which promotes the adoption of renewable and efficient energy.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
The development of public transport infrastructure is a fundamental aspect of creating a modern, efficient, and inclusive system.
