This campaign aims to encourage students and staff to use public transportation as their primary means of getting to campus. This step can reduce traffic congestion, save travel costs, and support environmental conservation efforts. With improved access to amenities such as buses, trains, and e-hailing services, polytechnic students are encouraged to transition their daily mobility habits towards more sustainable alternatives.

The inaugural SmartGreen Policy Development Workshop convened with full participation from all focus area managers, marking a crucial step in collaborative policy formation. Key outcomes included the assurance that the respective focus area managers and section representatives would efficiently handle focus area preparation. Participants demonstrated a clear understanding of task scopes within both the UIGreen and MPCC@PolyCCSUSTAward initiatives. Emphasis was placed on the importance of equitable task distribution among committee members by focus area managers to alleviate individual burdens. Finally, the workshop highlighted the benefits of unified teamwork, noting its positive impact on both enjoyment and efficiency.

The SmartGreen Team at PSA has set up a Clothing Donation Bin, marking a tangible step towards promoting sustainability and community support. This initiative aims to reduce textile waste by providing a convenient avenue for individuals to donate unwanted clothing, which can then be repurposed or distributed to those in need. The donation bin serves as a visible reminder of PSA's commitment to environmental responsibility and social consciousness, fostering a culture of mindful consumption and resourcefulness within the campus community. By diverting clothing from landfills, donation bins help reduce the environmental footprint of fashion.

Recognising the importance of music and performing arts in developing students' creativity, discipline, and collaborative spirit, POLYCC BATTLE SHOWDOWN 2025: RHYTHM OF REVOLUTION provided a platform for polytechnic and community college students to showcase their musical talents in an educational and entertaining competition. The band competition emphasised creativity, innovation, and the incorporation of local cultural elements, encouraging the younger generation to produce musical works reflecting a spirit of change and unity while preserving local artistic identity. Ultimately, PSA emerged as the champion of the event.

This hands-on experience, particularly in practical tasks such as arranging shrubs and ground cover, offers a tangible skillset that students can readily apply within the wider community, fostering a sense of social responsibility and environmental stewardship.

This campaign aims to raise awareness of the significance of public transportation, encourage a reduction in reliance on private vehicles, and foster a culture of public transport use among younger generations. It is very timely, given the rising cost of living, awareness of climate change, the need to adopt sustainable lifestyles, and issues of traffic congestion and air pollution in urban areas and higher education institutions.

The Civil Engineering Department recently conducted a water quality assessment of the PSA lake and SPAH, providing a valuable hands-on learning experience for students. Under the guidance of their lecturers, students actively participated in the laboratory testing procedures, gaining practical skills in environmental analysis and water resource management. This initiative not only contributes to a better understanding of the lake's ecological health but also reinforces the students' theoretical knowledge with real-world application, highlighting the department's commitment to practical education and environmental awareness within the campus.
Lake dissolved oxygen levels are generally good; slightly decreasing mid-lake pH is stable and slightly alkaline. Turbidity is highest at the inlet, decreasing towards the outlet as suspended particles settle. Rainwater harvesting shows lower turbidity and slightly lower dissolved oxygen than the lake, indicating a clearer, though slightly less oxygenated, alternative water source.

25 engineering diploma students and 14 lecturers from Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah participated in an educational tour of Baker Hughes Malaysia. The visit included an Occupational Health and Safety briefing by Mr. Shamsul Azam and a tour of the company’s facilities. This programme, which was also broadcast online to an additional 50 students, supported the DUE10062: Technical English 1 course by providing students with an opportunity to interact in English with international company officers.

The initial meeting with MBSA laid the groundwork for a sustained, productive partnership. The Deputy Secretary of Development at MBSA highlighted the various avenues for MBSA assistance available to the community & PSA. Contact information was obtained, and rapport was established with key MBSA departmental personnel for urban transport, landscaping, waste/cleanliness, EKSA-compliant management services, and SPAH/water management.

A discussion regarding focus area 4 took place with the coordinator, covering several key aspects. The discussion included the development of a BT4 organisational chart, a review of the BT4 scope of work, and plans for a focus area 4 benchmarking visit. Additionally, the formation of a focus area 4 policy was addressed, along with a review of the MPCC and UI Green focus area 4 rubrics.
The focus area 3 team meeting centred on key aspects of its operations and alignment with broader initiatives. Discussions included a detailed review of the focus area 3 rubric within the MPCC framework. It was noted that UI Green's focus, particularly regarding infrastructure settings, aligns with the SI code under the leadership of Mr. Shahril. The meeting also involved the development of the Smartgreen focus area 3 Policy. Finally, the committee members, their roles, and contributions were discussed.

The Industry Expert Enrichment Program (IEEP) featured an upholstery workshop led by Diploma in Wood Technology alumnus Ahmad Hamizan. The workshop aimed to enhance students' skills and knowledge in underlay production, familiarise them with industry technologies used in furniture making, and inform improvements to course and program learning outcomes to boost student achievement.

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Maintenance of areas, such as mowing grass, can reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases, including those transmitted by mosquitoes. Creating a clean and safe environment has a profoundly positive impact on the physical and mental health of the community.
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Ensuring that public green spaces and facilities are well-maintained contributes to a more comfortable, clean, and safe living environment.

The PSA Co-curriculum Carnival Day 2025 promoted a green culture through awareness programmes, training, and exhibitions. The event featured an environmental awareness exhibition and a terrarium garden display, emphasising landscape management, environmental law, and community engagement. Community members were taught the importance of working together and taking responsibility for one another, and students were able to develop their leadership, organisational, and environmental consciousness at the carnival. Additionally, the event showcased practical sustainability knowledge, such as generating income from used cooking oil and repurposing materials like eggshell boxes, which raised significant awareness among students and contributed to a greener campus environment.

PSA has recently partnered with Tiungmas Performing Arts and the Selangor State Youth and Sports Department - Rakan Muda Muzik to promote cultural education. This initiative culminated in 39 enthusiastic students completing the Basic Zapin Malaysia, Inang, and Joget Dance Course. The students received the Certificate of Completion in recognition of their proficiency in the Basic Dance module, as established by the National Department of Culture and Arts and taught by Tiungmas Solutions. This collaborative effort underscores SmartGreen's commitment to holistic development, encompassing both environmental awareness and the enrichment of cultural heritage within the community.

In collaboration with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), this initiative aims to raise awareness about the critical importance of preserving water resources, particularly lakes as vital freshwater ecosystems. The programme provides students with invaluable experiential learning opportunities in the sustainable management of clean and wastewater while fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship within the community and the younger generation, contributing to a more sustainable future.
