SmartGreen PSA recently participated in the significant Zero Waste Ambassador Retreat Session 2024/2025, an event organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) held at Semenyih Eco Venture & Recreation. This retreat served as a crucial platform to unite Zero Waste Ambassadors from the Student Representative Council (SRC) and various community representatives with the shared goal of strengthening their roles and commitment to environmental sustainability. A representative from SmartGreen PSA joined the two-day programme filled with a variety of engaging activities. These activities encompassed team-building exercises designed to enhance cooperation, a session for sharing green initiatives aimed at exchanging innovative ideas, and discussions focused on aligning community roles to highlight the importance of collective action. The retreat not only provided valuable exposure to effective waste management strategies but also fortified the network of cooperation among students and community leaders. The experience left participants highly motivated and solidified a shared commitment across the Shah Alam zones to achieve the zero-waste goal for future generations.

SmartGreen conducted a comprehensive site measurement in the Timtech PSA housing area. This activity aims to gather crucial data for developing a master landscape plan designed to enhance the area's visual appeal and ecological importance. Simultaneously, the team worked on creating a detailed periodic maintenance schedule for the landscape and environmental management. This proactive approach guarantees the well-planned, consistent, and sustainable maintenance of the campus's green spaces. The integration of landscape design and a structured maintenance plan underscores SmartGreen's commitment to creating a beautiful, healthy, and environmentally responsible campus for the entire PSA community.

SmartGreen's Focus Area 4 (Waste Management) team recently convened to review the progress of its various projects. The meeting confirmed that the team's plan for preparing documents has been effectively updated. All members have prepared their respective working papers and reports, with posters already designed and scheduled to be distributed via official email channels to all PSA staff. A significant upcoming event is the composting course, alongside the appointment of Zero Waste Ambassadors among students, which is scheduled for 27 August 2025. This important activity will involve collaboration with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and community ambassadors from Zone 22, Shah Alam. In preparation for the upcoming competition, each committee member is updating their competition documents in line with the specific performance targets assigned.

SmartGreen PSA is thrilled to unveil the PSA Green Award, an initiative designed to acknowledge and celebrate the sustainable contributions of our campus community. This programme presents the Monthly Green Miles Award for January through September, with a diverse range of categories to honour those who are making a difference. Awards are given for various green initiatives, such as the best logo creator, frequent vehicle sharing, public transportation use, and the use of EV vehicles. We recognise those who are proactive in environmental activities, prepare for the PSA Rainwater Harvesting System (SPAH), and contribute to green research and campaigns. Additionally, participants in tree-planting initiatives receive a Certificate of Appreciation. This awards programme recognises and encourages the collective commitment of all PSA residents towards a greener and more sustainable future.
SmartGreen PSA recently concluded its logo creation award for a new logo. The judging panel, comprising experts from various fields, including WorldSkills, universities, polytechnics, and community colleges, brought their diverse expertise to the selection process. The panel confirmed the winning logo, highlighting that each colour and shape was chosen for its distinct symbolic significance, which reflects the core values of SmartGreen. This new official logo will be used in all communications for SmartGreen PSA, and the designer has been formally acknowledged for her outstanding graphic design abilities.

SmartGreen PSA, in collaboration with MBSA, the PSA Eco-Friendly Club, and Zero Waste Ambassador Zone 22, organised a practical course on organic waste composting at the Department of Civil Engineering. The course provided members of the Eco-Friendly Club with easy-to-follow and effective techniques for managing food waste and converting it into valuable compost. Participants gained practical skills and had the opportunity to see the real results of composting at the MBSA booth, which was open to all PSA residents. The booth also provided an opportunity to purchase locally made compost, encouraging the community to support sustainability initiatives directly and understand the immense benefits of compost for the environment. This event effectively underscored the idea that even minor actions, such as composting, can lead to a substantial positive impact on our planet.

PSA lecturers have achieved a significant milestone by securing a research grant to develop a Rainwater Harvesting System (SPAH) tailored for educational institutions. This initiative, utilising the expertise of PSA lecturers, will be executed in two chosen schools located in the Shah Alam area. This success is not only a major achievement for PSA but also a testament to its commitment to the JPPKK Sustainable Institution initiative, demonstrating PSA's capability to contribute valuable, practical solutions to external partners and the wider community. This accomplishment further invigorates PSA’s role as a leader in sustainability and a hub of innovation.

SmartGreen's Focus Area 6 has successfully implemented a new initiative to promote low-carbon vehicle sharing on campus. Approved by both the Infrastructure Development and Maintenance Centre and OSHA PSA, five units of new road signs—designed to JKR standards at 600 mm - have been strategically placed for the benefit of all residents. This achievement marks a significant step forward in PSA's commitment to fostering a sustainable institution. The new signs will enhance awareness and guide the community toward more environmentally friendly transportation choices, supporting the campus's broader sustainability goals.
