A secondary teacher, commonly referred to as a high school teacher, is responsible for imparting knowledge and skills to students ranging from 6th to 12th grade in both private and government schools. The teacher possesses specialized knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science, and the arts. It is imperative for them to remain up-to-date with the latest developments in their respective fields and devise innovative teaching methodologies. The teacher's role encompasses teaching, mentoring, monitoring, and documenting the progress of their students.

Effective communication skills are a prerequisite for a secondary teacher. They play a pivotal role in laying the foundation for their students' future success by inspiring their imagination and preparing them for higher education and employment opportunities.

A teacher delivers instruction through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects, such as English, mathematics, social studies, and others. They adapt their teaching methods and instructional materials to cater to the varying needs and interests of their students. Additionally, they prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra assistance and maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. The teacher assigns and grades classwork and homework, prepares materials and classrooms for class activities, and observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. They provide students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate, and prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress. The teacher establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates those objectives to students. They guide and counsel students with academic problems or individual academic interests, prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks, and prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study. The teacher confers with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and meets with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs. They instruct and monitor students in the use of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage and prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.

Students have the option to pursue any stream of their choice for a duration of 12 years. Upon completion of this stage, they may proceed to obtain a Bachelor's degree in any field of study. Subsequently, they may choose to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed), followed by a Master's degree in Education (M.Ed), and ultimately a Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Education.
