The Army directs, trains, and leads infantry units in ground combat operations.
Duties include:
Directing the deployment of infantry weapons, vehicles, and equipment.

Performing strategic and tactical planning, including battle plan development; and leading basic reconnaissance operations.

Directing the establishment and operation of fire control communications systems.
Targeting and launching intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Directing the storage and handling of nuclear munitions and components.

Managing the maintenance of weapons systems.
There are four career paths to join the Indian Armed Forces:
Complete 12th in any stream and appear for the NDA exam.
Complete 12th and then graduate. After that, appear for the CDS exam.
Complete 12th in any stream and join NCC. After that, complete graduation and appear for the CDS exam.
Complete 12th in science with math and physics as subjects. Then, complete graduation in B.Tech/B.E/B.Tech (pre-final year) and appear for the Technical Graduate Commission exam.
