Merchant Navy 

The primary responsibility of the merchant navy is the transportation of goods. A merchant navy officer is accountable for the precise transportation of goods from onshore to other locations. The merchant navy is responsible for trading commercial goods such as food, oil, and chemicals. This occupation may require months of continuous work, but it provides the opportunity to travel around the world.

The responsibilities of a merchant navy officer are diverse. A deck officer is responsible for maintaining up-to-date GPS information, monitoring weather conditions, and navigating the ship through radar. A navy officer is responsible for loading and unloading cargo, performing administrative duties on the ship, and training new employees.

Several famous merchant ships include NS Savannah, the first nuclear-powered merchant ship, as well as Al Barrah, British Diamond, Flanders Loyalty, Gaz Venezia, and Jag Vijaya, which are all gas carrier merchant ships. Additionally, MCP Altona, Osaka Express, SS American Victory, and SS Band are a few examples of cargo ships.

The merchant navy officer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical equipment on board. This includes managing power generation and distribution systems, as well as refrigeration plant, ventilation, and pumping systems. They are also responsible for monitoring, repairing, and upgrading systems and equipment, such as air compressors, pumps, and sewage plants. In addition, they implement regular equipment inspections and maintenance programs and keep up to date with developments in the marine engineering field.

The merchant navy officer performs monitoring activities to ensure that ships comply with international regulations and standards for life-saving equipment and pollution preventatives. They prepare plans, estimates, design and construction schedules, and contract specifications, including any special provisions. They also check, test, and maintain automatic controls and alarm systems and evaluate the operation of marine equipment during acceptance testing and shakedown cruises.

As liaisons between ships' captains and shore personnel, the merchant navy officer ensures that schedules and budgets are maintained and that ships operate safely and efficiently. They work in various roles, including Marine Consultant, Marine Design Engineer, Marine Engineer, Marine Engineering Consultant, Marine Surveyor, Project Engineer, Propulsion Machinery Service Engineer, and Ships Equipment Engineer.

The student has the option to pursue 12th grade Mathematics and subsequently complete a Bachelor of Technology in Marine Engineering. Additionally, the student may choose to further their education by pursuing a Master of Technology in Marine Engineering.

Alternatively, the student may opt to pursue 12th grade Science with a focus on Mathematics, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Natural Science. The student may then choose to continue their academic journey by pursuing a Master of Science in Natural Science.
