1 1⁄4 cups 2% milk
1⁄4 cup quick-cooking grits
1 1⁄2 tablespoons honey
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1⁄2 to taste sliced fresh peaches or 1⁄2 to taste nectarines or 1⁄2 to taste strawberries or 1⁄2 to taste whole berries
Add the milk, grits, honey, and salt to a saucepan.
Over medium heat, bring mixture to low boil. Once the mixture has reached boiling, lower the heat and slowly add grits stirring continuously to prevent clumping. Stir for about 1 minute to remove any lumps. Be careful as the grits pop.
Cover the pot and continue to simmer on low heat. Check your grits often and give them a stir. Cook for 20 minutes or more. Add more milk or water if the grits look dry, 1 tablespoon at a time. Once cooked to your preference, remove from heat.
Serve warm, topped with fruit.
