It's normal for people to have fears, as a kid I was always terrified of heights just the thought of being at a taller height than I was made me sick. Based on that context you can probably infer how fun amusement parks were for me. Yea not much fun, One chilly Friday afternoon my siblings somehow convinced me to accompany them to an amusement park. We spent most of that afternoon riding rides that did not leave the ground, but that was not enough for my older brother, although the rides also scared him he kept insisting that we ride taller ones.
I was so annoyed that I agreed just to make him shut up, as I was buckling up the only thought on my mind at that moment was me falling. I kept repeating the same words to myself ¨Get off!, Get off!, Get off! like a broken record, while on the outside I was trying to play it off as it did not faze me. The roller coaster began moving and my mind went absolutely blank throughout the entire thing I remember just closing my eyes and enjoying the cool relaxing breeze. As I got off I did have a stomach ache but it was normal considering I was not used to that type of environment.
I felt neutral about the experience. On one hand the breeze was great but on the other hand I got a stomach ache. Something I was sure of that afternoon was that I was no longer afraid of heights and that fears are easier to get over when you face them head on.
This story was based on my personal experience.
In ¨My Fear¨ Angel Huerta is portraying the idea that it is normal for people to have fears. He then continues to express his fear with a past experience.
The Author started his writing by stating his main message and building around it, since Angel was telling a story he used Sequence as his text structure. He ended his writing by giving his overall thoughts on the experience he had.
Some meaningful words/phrases I noticed were ¨Terrified¨ and ¨Shut up¨. The word ¨terrified¨ gives more emotion of fear than other words like ¨Scared¨, ¨Shut up¨ is a very simple Phrase but to me it was effective because I felt the author's feeling of irritation and annoyance. Two literary devices used in this writing are epizeuxis ¨Get off, Get off!, Get off!¨ and simile ¨Like a broken record¨, I would describe this piece of writing as a neutral tone because it begins somewhat negative because of Angels fear of heights it then progresses into a more positive tone as he gets over it.
The author ends his writing by giving a conclusion of his overall experience. The author's main message is to convey the idea that having fears is normal. The target audience is individuals who are ashamed of having fears, The author used specific words to describe his feelings.
Your essay seemed interesting to me because there are many things that scare us but we have to face fears to lose them.
