By Jermaine Anderson
There's a time when and when not to do something. There's also times when you should say yes, and should say no, but the point of that is, that you should know what to do when that time comes. It's been times where i didn’t know when i should say yes, and no, and times when i didn't know if i should do something or not. I've learned my lessons and learned how to determine what to do in the situations. Hopefully you can too.
I've noticed how easy it is to not be sure about something. It's been times where I've been indecisive about what I want on my sandwich, hamburger, and even hot dog. I'm a very picky eater, so that kind of steps in with my indecisiveness, but it comes times when you are asked, “Would you like ketchup, mustard, anything honestly?”. You'd therefore be in a predicament where you would have to answer. And what will you do, answer.
How can you be sure? By giving it and the things time to process in your mind fully, and evaluate all the outcomes and possibilities. Be sure to think, give yourself a second and think. I know you'd rather think and wisely choose before you would just choose and regret it after, am i right? That just comes to show, think about it. Think. You need it to be a thought to think about thinking over things.
It can be an easy process or a hard one depending on what you learned as a kid, and how you grew up. Such as when you were a kid, and wanted to go play in the rain, but your mother always told you no. Eventually you should be able to dictate doing and not doing something with ease. It should be common, like knowing the back of your hand as some would say.
In the essay “Knowing When and When Not To”, Jermaine Anderson's main message was the importance of knowing when and when not to do something. Jermaine added many details after his first entry. He had “writers block” as writers would say, but when that went away and ideas came popping into his head, he made his essay more vivid by adding and telling personal experiences he faced dealing with the main message.
The essay begins with the main message, Jermaine then told that he learned his lessons and hopefully the reader can too. I personally say he used description as his text structure in his essay, because he gave personal experiences, such as “knowing what you would like on your food”. Jermaine also hints a little cause and effect in his essay by bringing up “thinking, and regrets”. Therefore he finally ends his essay by saying how common the main message should be after knowing and understanding it.
The most important phrase is the first sentence of the first paragraph stating “There's a time when and when not to do something.” That being the main message. I think there was an attempt of both anaphora, and epizeuxis literary devices being in the third paragraph saying “That just comes to show, think about it. Think. You need it to be a thought to think about overthinking things.” I would say that the tone of Jermaine's essay would be ardent, dignified and direct.
The purpose of this essay was to inform. The main message is the title “Knowing When and When Not To”, Jermaine chose to write about that because he thought it would be easy, but the essay gave him a run for his money. The essay reflects his knowledge of understanding a problem everyone faces by giving solutions. His audience would be human kind. Jermaine made personal experiences to connect better with the audience.
Its a very good take on the topic, as many others deal with the same problems everyday. To many it may not be such a troublesome thing to overcome but some overthink it a bit much. I like how you explain and give examples of such events, like a mother saying no their kids to going outside in the rain, and I also like how you built every paragraph like if your having a conversation with someone or to an audience and going into a deep analysis of the subject. Its very detailed essay with good punctuation, great detailing and good delivery. It shows that you care about the topic and have a good understanding of it which makes it easy for others to comprehend. Splendid work mate, keep it up!

I enjoyed this essay because the author can emphasize on what he is trying to write and state the purpose of the writing, and giving examples in the writing which I find excellent in any essay. I liked the phrase "I've noticed how easy it is to not be sure about something", I agree with this phrase because you can think of something for so long like when trying to put an answer on a test, you think it's that one answer but at the same time you aren't sure of it so you get easily worried if you're either getting it wrong or right. The authors writing style would be expository. This piece of writing reminded me a little of my childhood because my mother also told me many things not to do which i find it funny because i would always do the opposite of what she asked me not to do.
