By Christopher Rostro Melgar
The ocean is a mysterious place isn’t it? The ocean is very vast, it covers 97% of the earth and we know just a bit of it. We actually know more about space than we do about the ocean, and we have only explored about 20% of the ocean.
The ocean is very big and we have only explored 20% of it, which means that 80% of the ocean is still unexplored. There could be things down there without us even knowing about it. The biggest ocean in the world is the Pacific Ocean, which is estimated to be 4,000 meters deep and there are still places that go deeper. In the Pacific Ocean there is a place called the challenger deep that goes 35,814 feet below the sea level and it's known as the deepest part of the ocean. The deepest a person has gone down with scuba gear is 332.35 meters down and that's would be a lot but the ocean is 4,000 meters deep. The deepest a machine has gone down is all 4,000 meters, but just in certain places. They have not explored everything around it and that's why the ocean is very mysterious.
In the ocean there could be things that you have never seen before and perhaps a new creature could be down there, but we wouldn't know. The only way we can see what's down there is with a machine and a camera, but even with that it would still be too dark to see anything. We could never see what's down there with our own eyes because of the immense pressure it has. Even now, we could never know what is down there, there could be caves, other creatures, and some other types of things.
In conclusion, the ocean is very mysterious, and anything could be down there that we just don't know about. I doubt we will find those things out with our own eyes based on the pressure of the sea and the depth that it is.
In the writing “ The Ocean “, Christopher Rostro’s main message is that the ocean is very mysterious and we should explore more about it. In this writing he gives facts about what we have learned and how much of the ocean we have explored and how much is unexplored. As you read, in this piece he gives examples of what could be down there and how the ocean is a mysterious place.
The writing starts off by explaining how much of the ocean there is and telling us how much of the ocean we really know. This piece is organized by paragraphs, each explaining a different topic of the ocean. The first paragraph is the intro to the writing, for example he states ” The ocean is very vast, it covers 97% of the earth and we know just a bit of it. We actually know more about space than we do about the ocean and we have only explored about 20% of the ocean.” and starts the topic of the ocean. the second is of what we know about the ocean just like when he says ”The biggest ocean in the world is the pacific ocean which is estimated to be 4,000 meters deep and still there are places that go deeper. “ and also when he writes “ In the pacific there is a place called the challenger deep that goes 35,814 feet below sea level and is known as the deepest part of the ocean known to earth.”. The third is about the types of risks there are at the sea just like “We could never see what's down there with our own two eyes because of the immense pressure it has.”. The last paragraph is the conclusion of the whole piece, and ends it all by restating the topics of all the paragraphs. This piece is a description type of text writing which gives examples, characteristics, and features in the text.
The most important words in this piece are mysterious, unexplored, and immense. The words are some of the most important in this text because it expresses that we know a bit of the whole ocean and there are still things about it we don't know and these words express that, these words influence the tone of the piece by giving it a mysterious look to it. The literary device used in this text is hyperbole because he exaggerates about some topics just like when he said “ And even now we could never know what is down there, there could be caves, other creatures and some other types of things.” here he exaggerates about us never knowing what could be down there when technology could help us see what could be down there. The Tone of the writing is cautionary and also thoughtful because he gives caution about the ocean and is serious about what the ocean could have in it.
The purpose of this writing is to give people knowledge about the unknown and mysteriousness about the ocean, and the main message is that we should explore more and find out more about the ocean because we could learn a lot more than we already know. Christopher chose to write about the ocean because there is little to know about it and he wanted more people to know about the ocean so we could be more curious and try to find out more about it. This writing shows the knowledge of the ocean by giving facts about what the deepest ocean is, and how much we have explored. The audience of this piece are people who are curious about things such as the ocean, some choices he made to connect to the audience is that he put facts about what he wrote about and also he put his own thoughts of what could be down there to connect to other people's thoughts as well.
