By Daniel Avila
One day when I was 14 years old and I was in my freshman year of high school the day was sunny and the birds were singing. I came from a busy day of school while I was walking on the sidewalk. I saw a mixed tan chihuahua. He was a little puppy that was scared and started shaking.
The next day I saw him again so at this point I could tell he had no home which made me sad and got me thinking what if i try to touch him but then i left because i could tell he was scared so. Few days later while I was cutting the grass I saw him again but this time he looked even more hungry. I had a pizza in my hand but since I knew he did not like to be approached I just threw it at him and he took it and ate it.
A week or two pass with me giving him food every morning while going to school and coming from school. In the bus stop i have a friend called Chris, he has black hair and tall, he told me, “why don't you just take him home since your the only one that cares about him in our street”, I told him, “huh your right”.
My sisters have been wanting a dog for a while since our old one passed away a few years ago. I didn't tell no one i was going to take him home except my friend. I wanted it to be a surprise. So when I came home from school on a Friday I got dog food and a little plastic cup i went to where he usually stays around the corner of my street, I could tell he was waiting for me his tail was already moving so when he started eating I touched him and i was nervous because i have never grabbed him what if he bit me but i risked it all so I grabbed him and took him with me my surprise he was still moving his tail.
When i took him home with me instantly my little sister started touching him and pet him my older sister also was like that, They asked me where i got him i said the street down a hour past and my mom had just gotten home from work, She doesn't really like animals so she instantly said to take him out the house but my sisters kept begging so we can keep him and that they would take care of him after a few hours later my mom finally said yes so now till this day we keep him and he's a great part of the family.
I wrote this story trying to prove how a chance can affect someones life forever. From my experience I write how I found a dog in the streets that was hungry and cold which I told my mom to keep him and my mom gave him that chance to prove if he was a good part of the family.
In the story Daniel Avila writes about how he found a dog and ends up keeping him, Later on his mom doesn’t want a new dog but ends up proving he can take care of him which leads on his mom giving the dog a chance to prove he can be a great part of the family in the story.
The story begins how he was walking home from school with his friend in freshman year of high school when he saw this little puppy in the streets that he picked up and took him home.
Daniel uses “I as a point of view on the text or he uses “he” to make you imagine how it was so you can feel the story threw your eyes, also gives out examples like he talked about his other dog and how he was the only one.
In one of the lines Daniel gives his point of view by saying” I knew he did not like to be approached I just threw it at him and he took it and ate it” that shows that he did that to make his audience feel and imagine how he felt when he did that in the line.
He ends the story by his family accepting the dog as there new pet but before that they did not want him because his mom thought they could not take care of him, That's why the story is called giving a chance because his mom gave the dog a chance to prove himself he can be good part of the family and after all that the dog does end up being in the family happy and safe.
In his story I like how he uses details. For example he says "I had a pizza in my hand but since I knew he did not like to be approached I just threw it at him and he took it and ate it" which made me see his point of view in my mind perfectly. My favorite details about his piece was he gave out many examples of how the story was going. I also noticed his writing style was very creative and also very detailed.
