They are leaving Crete
That same night Theseus and the young men of Athens left secretly with their ship from Crete. They took Ariadne with them. They had previously taken care to make holes in Minos' ships, so that they could not follow them.
In Naxos
They travelled happily all the way to Naxos. There they went out to a beach to rest. But then the god Dionysus passed by. He saw Ariadne, was struck by her beauty and took her to be his wife.
In Delos
Then they reached the holy island of Delos. There they stopped and made a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Apollo. Then they danced a new dance, with confused steps, like the confused Labyrinth. This dance is called the crane.
The Aegean
On the seashore, on a high rock, old Aegeus was gazing at the sea and waiting. And there! In the white waves beyond, he sees the ship turning with black sails. For Theseus and his companions, in their great joy, forgot to put on the ship the white sails of joy.
Aegean Sea
Aegeus' eyes became glassy with black despair and he fell into the sea and drowned. The Aegean Sea has been called the Aegean Sea ever since.
