Η Αργώ στην Κολχίδα
In a few days, Argo proudly rested in the port of Colchis. All the others stayed on board the ship, only Jason with Telamon and Augeas went to Aeetes, the king of the place.
Jason - Aeetes
When they arrived at the palace, they presented themselves before the king. Jason explained to him what they had come for. At first, Aeetes thought of punishing these impudent people. But when he learned that the famous heroes of Greece had come, he changed his mind and told Jason:
- I will gladly give it to you. All you have to do is prove to me that you're a lad and you deserve it. I have two bulls with legs of bronze and flames coming out of their nostrils. I'm breeding them and sowing my field with dragon's teeth. Immediately a multitude of armed, godlike men spring from the earth and surround me. But I kill them all. If you can do the same, then you'll get the golden skin.
The Meeting with Medea
As Jason was walking thoughtfully out of the palace, he met a daughter. She stopped him and said to him:
- Stranger, you've agreed to do difficult things. However, I will help you. Take this ointment and anoint your skin and your weapons and fear nothing. Nothing will touch you, not water nor fire. Nor shall you fear the wild bulls.
- Who are you?Jason asked her curiously.
- I am Medea, the daughter of Aeetes, she answered.
- "If it ends well, I promise to take you as my wife," Jason said to her.
Taming of the Bulls
The next morning, Jason prepared himself and anointed his body with the magic ointment. Then he set out for the stables, where the wild bulls were. As soon as they saw them, they rushed to tear him apart. Indeed, neither their horns hurt him, nor the flames that were thrown at them. So Jason grabbed them by their horns and heated them up.
Sowing the Dragon's Teeth
Then he pulled into the field, plowed it and sowed the dragon's teeth. He did not wait long and there began to sprout and rise from the earth fearsome warriors, giants divine and armed.
Extermination of the Giants
Then Jason grabbed a stone and threw it between them. One turns and says to the other: "Why did you hit me?" And it is thrown at him. Before long, there was no one left who wasn't hitting someone. So the dragon-born giants killed each other.
The attitude of the Aetius
When he had killed all that were left, he left and went to Aeetes and asked him for the golden skin. But Aeetes was already sorry and did not want to give it to him. But he did not want it to appear that he was not a man of his word. So he said to him:
- The skin is hanging in the forest, from a tall oak tree. Go get it!
The second help of Medea
Why did Aeetes send Jason into the forest? Because he thought that he could not get the golden skin, since it was guarded by a terrible dragon. But Medea knew. That is why she warned Jason to go and get his ship ready to leave Colchis by night and then return. The lad ran and warned his companions to have everything ready for departure, and turned back
Medea picks him up and they head straight for the forest, taking Orpheus with them. But as soon as they approached and the Dragon saw them, he growled and rose up to grab Jason. Then Medea came forward, who kept saying and repeating a spell. Slowly the dragon wriggled out of the tree, and as he crawled down, Medea sprinkled him with a magic liquid.
Orpheus played his lyre very sweetly and the dragon fell asleep. Immediately Jason unhooked the golden-eyed skin, which was glistening, and they all ran for the ship. On the way he picked up Medea's little brother, the lifeless one, and soon they were on the shore. Ready the boat, ready the companions. They sailed off into the night, and as they parted the sea, their golden skin glowed in their wake.
