Pelops - Hippodamia
Who are they?
How did they manage to be together?
Who are they?
How did they manage to be together?
In a beautiful land full of green meadows and high mountains, there lived a brave young man, Pelops. Pelops was known for his great strength and intelligence. He lived in a distant land and was always looking for adventure.
One day, Pelops heard about the beautiful Hippodamia, the daughter of King Oenomaus. Hippodamia was so beautiful that many men wanted to marry her, but her father did not want to marry her to anyone.
So, he set a very difficult condition: anyone who wanted to marry Hippodameia had to defeat him in a chariot race. The king had very fast horses, and up to that point, no one had managed to beat him. Those who lost paid with their lives.
But Pelops was not afraid of the challenge. With the help of the god Poseidon, he got a magical chariot and two immortal horses that could run faster than any other. When he arrived at the palace of Oenomaus, he asked to take part in the race.
Hippodamia, tired of watching her suitors die, helped Pelops. She persuaded Myrtillus, King Oenomaus's sneaker, to change the wedges on the wheels of the king's chariot with wax ones. So, during the fight, the wheels of King Oenomaus' chariot broke, and the king fell and was killed.
Pelops won the race and won the heart of Hippodamia. They married and lived happily ever after. Pelops became king and together with Hippodamia they created a strong and happy family.
Myrtillus, however, asked for a reward for his help. Pelops, angry that Myrtillus wanted more than his gratitude, pushed him off a rock into the sea. Before he died, Myrtillus cursed Pelops and his family.
Nevertheless, Pelops and Hippodamia were forever remembered as symbols of courage and love. Their story was passed down from generation to generation and became a beloved legend, showing that bravery and cleverness can overcome any difficulty, but also that our actions have consequences.
