Who was Dido? What was her relationship to Aeneas?
In the distant land of Phoenicia, there was a beautiful princess named Dido. She lived in a great palace with her beloved husband, Akerbas. Her life was full of joy and laughter, until one day, her brother, the evil Pygmalion, decided to take Akerva's property.
Pygmalion did a terrible deed and murdered Akerbas. Dido, devastated by the loss of her beloved, knew she had to run away to save herself. With great sorrow but also determination, she gathered those who were loyal to her and set out on a journey by ship to unknown lands.
After many journeys, they arrived in North Africa. There, they met King Iarva. Dido asked him if he could buy some land to build a new house for her people. Jarvah told her that she could have all the land she could cover with the skin of an ox.
Dido, brilliant as she was, cut the skin into thin strips and made a large piece of land, enough to found a whole city! The new city was called Carthage, and it became a beautiful and powerful kingdom. Dido was a good and fair queen, and her people loved her dearly.
One day, on the sea near Carthage, a brave traveller named Aeneas arrived. Aeneas was tired and seeking shelter. Dido welcomed him and soon a great friendship developed, which turned into love. However, Aeneas had an important destiny to fulfill. He had to reach Italy to found a new city.
When Aeneas departed, Dido felt great sorrow. Although she was brave and strong, her heart could not bear the separation. With a heavy heart, Dido bid farewell to the world, leaving behind a city that would always remember its brave and good queen.
