Phaethon and the Chariot of the Sun
Who was Phaethon?
What did it have to do with the Sun?
Who was Phaethon?
What did it have to do with the Sun?
Once upon a time, in the sky lived the Sun, the god who brought light and warmth to Earth every day. The Sun had a son, Phaethon.
Phaethon was eager to ride his father's shining chariot, the chariot that carried the Sun across the sky.
One day, Phaethon asked his father to let him drive the chariot. Sun warned him that it was too dangerous, but Phaethon was determined. Eventually, Helios, though apprehensive, agreed.
Phaethon got on the chariot and began to ride into the sky. But he soon lost control.
The horses were running wild, getting too close to the Earth, causing it to burn and then flying away, causing it to freeze.
The gods saw the danger and Zeus, the king of the gods, fired a bolt of lightning to save the Earth.
Lightning struck Phaethon and he fell from the sky, leaving the chariot to return to the Sun.
The Sun was sad, but grateful that the Earth had been saved.
