Daedalus and Icarus
In the beautiful city of Athens, there lived an excellent craftsman and inventor named Daedalus. Daedalus was known for his genius and his amazing creations. Living with him was his son Icarus, a child full of curiosity and a love of adventure.
Minotaur
One day, King Minos of Crete summoned Daedalus and Icarus to his palace, asking Daedalus to build a labyrinth to imprison Minotaur, a terrible monster with a human body and a bull's head.
The journey
Daedalus, known for his art, accepted the invitation and together with Icarus travelled to Crete.
Maze construction
After many months of hard work, the labyrinth was completed and it was so complicated that no one could find the way out.
Prisoners
However, Daedalus and Icarus could not leave Crete, because King Minos kept them prisoners so that they would not reveal the secrets of the labyrinth.
The plan
Daedalus, with his ingenuity and resourcefulness, found a way to escape: he would make wings for himself and Icarus, using bird feathers and wax.
The advice
When the wings were ready, Daedalus attached them to their backs and warned Icarus: "My son, we must fly carefully. Don't fly too high, or the sun will melt the wax, and don't fly too low, or the moisture of the sea will weigh down your wings."
The flight
They started their flight with enthusiasm and their wings kept them in the air. But Icarus, excited by the freedom and the sensation of flight, began to climb higher and higher, forgetting his father's warning.
The fall
The sun was bright and warm, and the wax began to melt. Icarus' wings dissipated and he began to fall towards the sea.
Daedalus, unable to save him, saw his beloved son fall and disappear into the waves.
Icarian Sea
The sea in which Icarus fell was named after him and is called the Icarian Sea.
In Sicily
With a heavy heart and full of sorrow, he continued his flight and arrived in the safe land of Sicily, where he now lived alone with the memory of Icarus.
