What is its relationship to the constellation?
Artemis
In the beautiful and green area of Arcadia lived the goddess Artemis, the goddess of hunting and nature. Artemis was known for her love of forests and animals, as well as for her exceptional skill with the bow and arrow.
Orion
One day, in the same area, a new hunter named Orion arrived. Orion was a giant and an excellent hunter, known for his strength and love of adventure. The two soon became friends, hunting together in the woods and spending hours talking about nature and animals
Friendship
Time passed and their friendship grew stronger and stronger. Orion and Artemis were inseparable and enjoyed their adventures.
Apollo's concern
However, the god Apollo, Artemis' brother, was not happy with their friendship. Apollo was worried that Artemis might fall in love with Orion and forget her divine obligations.
The decision of Apollon
One day, Apollo decided to act. He knew that Orion used to swim in a remote sea. Apollo went to Artemis and challenged her to an archery match. He showed her a small point on the horizon and challenged her to hit it with her arrow. Artemis, proud of her skills, accepted the challenge and shot her arrow.
Death of Orion
With great accuracy, the arrow hit the spot that Apollo had shown her. But that point was not just an object, it was Orion swimming far out to sea. Artemis, unbeknownst to her, had mortally wounded her beloved friend.
Constellation
When Artemis discovered the truth, she felt deep sorrow and was angry with her brother. To honor Orion and keep him close to her forever, she asked Zeus to place him in the sky as a constellation. Thus, Orion became a brilliant constellation that still shines in the night sky today.
