Pygmalion and Galatea
Can a man fall in love with his creation?
To see one more myth of Ancient Greece
In ancient Cyprus, there lived a talented sculptor, Pygmalion. Pygmalion was so good at his work that the statues he made looked alive. But Pygmalion wasn't happy because he couldn't find the perfect woman he dreamed of.
One day, he decided to create an ivory statue that would represent the ideal woman. He worked day and night with care and love. When he completed the statue, he named it Galatea. It was so beautiful that Pygmalion fell in love with his creation.
Pygmalion spent hours looking at Galatea, talking to her and caring for her as if she were alive. But he knew she was only a statue and that made him very sad.
One day, during the feast of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, Pygmalion prayed with all his heart. He asked Aphrodite to give him a wife as beautiful and kind as Galatea.
Aphrodite heard his prayer and was moved by his sincerity. When Pygmalion returned to his workshop and touched Galatea, he felt something incredible. The cold ivory began to warm and soften. Galatea had become alive!
Galatea opened her eyes and smiled at Pygmalion. It was exactly as she had dreamed it would be. Pygmalion and Galatea became very happy and lived together, full of love and gratitude to Aphrodite.
