The Capricorn of Erymanthus
What was Hercules supposed to do?
The boar
In one of the mountains of Arcadia, Erymanthos, there lived a large wild boar. It would come down from there to the plain, destroy the crops and kill the animals. It had become a plague for the farmers, who suffered greatly and did not know what to do. For many times many went out together to hunt it, and not only did they not succeed, but it killed some of them. This beast, therefore, Eurystheus ordered Heracles to catch it and bring it to him alive.
Hercules and boar
Difficult thing. Because it was winter, the snow was covering the whole place and the boar would be stuck in who knows what cave. So Hercules went up the mountain and began to search. But he finds it nowhere. Then he began to shout loudly, lest he should be afraid and come out of his cave. And sure enough, soon he sees the boar come out and run.
Hercules catches the boar
Hercules is also running, but it is difficult to reach it. He thinks he has to tire it out and continues the chase. So, with a lot of effort, he managed to bring it into a ravine and there, exhausted as it was, he caught it.
The boar in Eurystheus
He tied it tightly, put it on his shoulders and set off for Mycenae. Once he arrived and, with it slung on his shoulders, he entered the palace. But the boar roared so loudly that Eurystheus, terrified, ran and hid himself again in his jar.
