Hippolyte and Amazons
The queen of a part of Asia Minor, near the Black Sea, was a woman called Hippolyta. In this kingdom lived only women, called Amazons. They were beautiful, strong and brave. They always fought on horseback, often better than men. That's why no people harmed them. First and best among them was Hippolyta. To her Ares had once given a girdle of gold, gleaming with diamonds and jewels.
Hercules and Hippolyte
For this zone, therefore, the daughter of Eurystheus, Admitis, had heard about it. And she wanted it. Eurystheus then called Heracles and ordered him to go and fetch it. Again Heracles set out with his companions in a boat. Eventually they reached the coast of the land of the Amazons. As soon as they came ashore, they saw an Amazon who welcomed them. It was Hippolyte, who, when Hercules told her why he had come, agreed to give him her belt. She had heard of his exploits and admired him. So she invited them to the palace to entertain them.

Hercules brings the belt
Then they took the belt and left for Mycenae. There they delivered it to Admitis, whose joy was very great, for she was to have such a beautiful ornament.
