Where did the beautiful flower get its name from?
Where did the beautiful flower get its name from?
In ancient Greece there lived a young and incredibly handsome prince called Hyacinth. He was known everywhere for his cheerful spirit and kind heart. In the glittering kingdom of the gods, Apollo, the god of sun, music and poetry, heard stories about Hyacinthus. Intrigued, Apollo descended from Mount Olympus to meet this prince.
As they met, Apollo was impressed by Hyacinth's charm and grace. They soon became best friends, spending their days together enjoying various activities. Apollo taught Hyacinth the art of archery and how to play the lyre, and they often competed in friendly matches.
One day, they decided to play disc throw. Apollo threw the discus high into the sky, and Hyacinth ran to catch it. But at that moment, another god, Zephyr, the wind god, who was jealous of Hyacinth's friendship with Apollo, blew the discus loudly. The disc hit Hyacinth on the head and he fell to the ground.
Apollo tried to use his divine powers to heal him, but even the power of a god has its limits. As Hyacinth lay dying, Apollo said with tears in his eyes. I will ensure that your name lives on forever."
With these words, a beautiful flower grew from the spot where Hyacinth was. Apollo named it "Hyacinth" in honor of his friend. Every year, when the hyacinths bloom, they remind the world of the friendship and love between Hyacinth and Apollo, a story of companionship that transcended the boundaries of mortals and gods.
