How was the heliotrope created?
Let's look at the mythological explanation.
Clytia was a nymph who loved the Sun very much. Every day, she looked up into the sky and watched the bright Sun cross the blue dome. When the Sun lit up the world with its golden light, Clytia felt her heart fill with joy and warmth.
But the sun paid no attention to her. It looked away and paid no attention to her. Clytia couldn't understand why the Sun didn't return her love. Her sadness grew every day, but she couldn't stop looking at him.
For nine days, Clytia sat on a hill and watched the sun rise and set without eating or drinking. Despite her great sadness, her love for the sun never faded. She just wanted to see it and admire it.
The gods, seeing her devotion and sorrow, decided to transform her. So they turned her into a sunflower, a flower that always follows the sun as it moves across the sky.
Since then, the sunflower has been turning its head towards the sun from sunrise to sunset, showing Clytia's eternal love for the shining god.
And so, Clytia, in the form of the sunflower, keeps on looking at her beloved Sun, forever.
