Let's see the continuation of this fascinating story.
The Greeks in Troy
The wind was blowing the sails and the proud ships were tearing the blue Aegean Sea. Until, after a week's journey, the ships approached the land of the Trojans.
The defence of the Trojans
The Trojans heard that the Greeks were coming, but they didn't have many ships to go out and fight. But they prepared their army, asked for help from the neighbouring countries and went down to the beach. They were determined to prevent the Greeks from coming ashore
On the coast of Troy
The Greeks lined up their boats across the beach. Agamemnon gave the signal and everything started with the soldiers' chatter. The arrows, which began to be shot from both sides, fell like rain. The ships, with their momentum, touched the sand.
The Greeks jumped down and rushed at the Trojans with their poles. There was a terrible battle that lasted for hours. In the end, the Greeks won and the Trojans fled and shut themselves in the high walls of Troy.
Protesilaos
There was an oracle that whoever stepped on the land of Troy first would be killed. This oracle was known to all Greeks. And yet there was one Greek, the brave Thessalian Protesilaos, who decided to be the first to tread the Trojan land. Proteusilaeus was killed by Hector. The Greeks greatly honored the first dead man of the Trojan War, who sacrificed himself for the honor of his country.
Greek camp
The Greeks pulled their ships ashore and built their camp: around the ships they built a strong wall with thick wood, and on the outside they dug a deep ditch. Finally, through the wooden wall they pitched their tents. Between Troy and the Greek camp lay the plain. Alongside the plain flowed the river Skamander.
Προσπάθεια για ειρήνη
After a few days Odysseus and Menelaus went to Priam. They asked for the beautiful Helen and Menelaus' riches back and proposed to make peace. But Paris and other Trojans did not want peace. Then Odysseus, leaving, said to Priam:
- War brings many evils and no good.
War
So began a fierce war that lasted ten years. Three times the Greeks tried to conquer Troy, but they could not, because the walls were strong and the Trojans threw stones, arrows and fire over them.
The outcome of the war
That's why the Greeks besieged them. The Trojans would come out to get food, the Greeks would rush in and start murderous battles. Sometimes one army won, sometimes the other.
The duration of the war
So time went by and no one was able to defeat the other completely.
And year after year the war dragged on and they reached nine years.
For nine years the Greeks had been fighting Troy and had yet to take it.
Achilles - Hector
The Trojans were led by the worthy Hector, the son of Priam. The bravest of the Greeks was Achilles.
Gods
The gods also took part in the war of Troy. Apollo, Ares and Aphrodite supported the Trojans. The Greeks were helped by Poseidon, Hera and Athena.
